Sonic Unleashed looks cool, but I think what was a bit more interesting than the leaked screens and video was the conversation sparked by this sonic game. Maybe it's just because I haven't read any other message board threads when a new Sonic game is released but people sure were quick to say things like: "Now that its in 2D maybe Sega will correct the mistakes they have been making with Sonic's 3D escapades." Those kind of comments are really odd to me, people seem to have forgotten that when Sonic first made the jump to 3D it was freaking amazing. For a moment I thought that maybe I was just at odds with the popular opinion of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, but I really don't think that. Also I know the critical reception of those games was overwhelmingly positive ( [link] [link] ). Still people think that Sonic simply cant be done in 3D and Sega should revert back to it's 2D roots and play it safe. I think thats hella lame to the makes mostly because there are enough good 2D sonic games to go around. One gets made almost every year on the handheld's.

What I'm clamoring for is another amazing Sonic 3D game like Sonic Adventure because those games were amazing, they really were. When I think about it I never thought that Sega was in some ungodly stump in which they couldn't stop making crap games. They made 2 bad 3D Sonic games and if you chose to include Shadow The Hedgehog they made 3. And yeah, that is kind of bad kind of really bad. But In no way does it make me think that the game design is beyond all levels of competency that a good 3D Sonic game could never exist (again).

If you've forgotten go play SA 1 or 2 those games were good. Although SA2 is kind of sad because it's very much so the beginning of the end. In that you totally get the start of the crappy crappy new characters and forcing them in game play and all that shiz.
